Mental Health First Aid classes are now available! Register now.
The Lake County Health Department is accepting applications for its next Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor training, being held November 6-8, 2024.

Trainees will learn how to teach the Youth Mental Health First Aid course, including the five-step action plan, evidence-supported treatment, and self-help strategies to adults who interact with adolescents.

We are looking for applicants who have:

  • A general knowledge of mental health and substance use issues
  • Experience teaching groups of youth
  • Understanding of best practices in youth learning
  • Experience facilitating groups

The three day in-person training, which normally costs $2,200 per person, is offered for free to qualified applicants. This training will take place in Waukegan, Illinois. In exchange, individuals who take the course agree to teach three Youth Mental Health First Aid classes.

All applicants must work or reside in Lake County. Candidates must have completed the eight-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid course which will be offered on August 23, 2024 at the Lake County Health Department.
